Until our move in 2022, RCG was long-standing neighbours with the Richmond Food Bank, often witnessing first-hand the vast lineups of locals waiting for assistance. With the noticeable uptick in food insecurity, RCG organized a March food drive inviting 30 of our tenants to join us! Our staff were excited to contribute & gave generously (encouraged by the Food Bank-provided list of most-needed items).
A few tenants not only filled their entire boxes but filled multiple boxes! This was exciting as RCG sweetened the incentive to participate as every box filled would equal an additional $100 donated to the Food Bank. A very proud shout-out to Earth Child Montessori School, Thompson Community Services, San Marino Furniture & RONA for being a shining example of generosity and spirit, encouraging their staff (and customers) to help. What’s even more amazing? The total weight of all donations measured in at nearly 500 lbs! We’re grateful to all tenants who took part as every item mattered.
A few months later, RCG staff members met with the Food Bank’s Executive Director, Hajira Hussain, to present an additional $1200 donation on behalf of RCG and the aforementioned tenants. For a first-time food drive, we were delighted with the outcome & the sense of helping a long-time neighbour who does such wonderful work for the Richmond community.
